Application Information

Joint PhD Programs:

You may apply online to our joint PhD programs at the UMDNJ-Graduate School of Biomedical Science at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers University with one easy online application.

Deadline for receipt of completed applications is January 5.  Applications received after this date will be considered only as space and funding allows.

Students applying for admission to the MS or Certificate program in Clinical and Translational Science must visit http://rwjms.umdnj.edu/education/gsbs/admissions/apply_cts.html for application instructions.

Note: It is not necessary to obtain an MS degree prior to enrolling in the doctoral programs. Do NOT use the joint UMDNJ-RWJMS/Rutgers University online application to apply for the Clinical and Translational Science program.

The following official documents must be received to consider your application complete:

  • Official transcripts from all prior colleges or universities.
  • Official General GRE (Advanced Subject Test is strongly encouraged but not required)
  • Recommendations from three individuals, preferably academic instructors, who have direct knowledge of the applicant’s academic abilities in science related fields.
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) required of all foreign applicants.

All completed applications will be considered by the Interdisciplinary Joint Graduate Admissions Committee in the Molecular BioSciences except for the Graduate Programs in Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, Toxicology, and Environmental Science/Exposure Assessment who consider their applicants independently.

Deadline for receipt of supporting documentation: January 15.

**All students accepted for full time study into the PhD program will receive tuition payment, paid health insurance and a competitive 12-month stipend.

MS in CTS:

Eligible applicants will have completed or be within one year of completing one or more of the following degrees:  MD, PhD, DO, PharmD, DDS, DVM, or similar degree.  Those with other professional degrees should contact the Program Director at fotyra@umdnj.edu or (732) 235-7482 to discuss eligibility.   In some cases, experience will substitute for the advanced degree requirement.

All applicants must submit their application and supporting documents by the deadline.

    Note* For RWJMS medical students applying for a scholarship, applications are also due May 1.
  • Spring Semester – October 1

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) required for all foreign applicants.
  • Full Current Curriculum Vitae (CV)

* Applicants possessing an advanced degree or currently enrolled in an advanced degree program are not required to re-take the GRE for entry into this program.  Instead, these applicants should provide results of the entry examinations required for their specific degree or program (i.e. GRE, MCAT, DAT, etc).  Waivers may be requested prior to application submission by contacting the Program Director, Dr. Ramsey Foty, at fotyra@umdnj.edu or by mailing request to the UMDNJ-GSBS@RWJMS.  The ETS  Institutional code for GSBS at RWJMS is  2786.   The departmental code for the program is 0699 (Health and Medical Science - Other).
