Employment Specialist

Employment Specialist: Introductory Level

This two-day workshop is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective supports to individuals with disabilities seeking integrated employment. Participants will learn a variety of key skills and competencies including methods of vocational assessment, job development strategies, employee training and skill development, and assessing and implementing appropriate workplace modifications and necessary accommodations. Participants will also a gain a greater understanding of laws, regulations, and issues surrounding disability disclosure. In addition, attendees will learn proven job training and workplace support strategies including direct and systematic instruction, self-management techniques, and the use of natural supports.

Employment Specialist: Advanced Level

This two-day workshop is designed to offer experienced supported employment professionals with advanced knowledge and skills needed to provide ongoing effective workplace supports for individuals with significant disabilities. Participants will learn how to assess work sites to determine hidden employer needs with the aim of creating niche jobs (customized employment). Attendees also will learn how to use different behavioral interventions for addressing challenging behaviors on the job. Federal work incentive programs will be addressed including Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and business tax incentive programs available to employers for hiring people with disabilities.

Prerequisite: Completion of Employment Specialist Introductory Level Training

Fee information: Employees of DDD and DVR, staff of agencies funded by DDD and DVR, as well as individuals with disabilities and family members - no charge. All other registrants - $150

Please note: Submission of the online form is not a confirmation of registration. Submission of the online registration form sends an email request to The Boggs Center. When your form is received, Boggs Center
staff will register you for the course requested, based on space availability. If the training is full,
you will be notified. Written confirmation of your registration and materials will be mailed two weeks prior to the training course. If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact us to verify registration and to receive directions and materials.
